Will Jake Gyllenhaal get the leading role in the next Bourne film?

"According to reports, Gyllenhaal was in talks with the film's writer Tony Gilroy on Thursday. Filling Damon's shoes for the next Bourne film was always going to be a big job.
The 40-year-old actor, who has ten years on Gyllenhaal, has successfully played amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne in three of the hit action thrillers, The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy , and The Bourne Ultimatum. The new film is set to be release in 2012. Universal Pictures originally intended The Bourne Ultimatum to be the final film in the series, but development of the new film was under way by October 2008.
Damon has successfully played Jason Bourne in all three of the hit action thrillers. Unlike the previous three movies, it is not based on the novels written by Robert Ludlum. Instead the story has a completely different treatment and Damon's role of Jason Bourne will not be entirely to put to rest. The new film won't be putting a new actor in the character of Bourne. Instead, there will be a whole new character in a whole new storyline. 'This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel,' writer Tony Gilroy said back in October last year. 'No one's replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter… this is a stand-alone project...'The easiest way to think of it is an expansion or a reveal. Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he's very much alive.'

Gyllenhaal is not the only leading man being considered for the role.
He follows a long line of actors under contemplation. Twilight's Kellan Lutz and Spiderman star Tobey Maguire are high up on the list, along with Country Strong actor Garrett Hedlund, and his Friday Night Light's co-star Taylor Kitsch". Source: www.dailymail.co.uk
