"Robert Pattinson has apparently described the Twilight saga as a "metaphor for sexual abstinence".The 23-year-old said that the chaste relationship between his character, vampire Edward Cullen, and schoolgirl Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), is largely behind the franchise's popularity."The success of the Twilight books bomes from the fact that fans can lust after Edward and yet, certainly in the first book, there's no actual sexual contact between him and the series heroine. Twilight is a big metaphor for sexual abstinence, and yet it's erotic underneath. There are so many elements in the story which are sexy," Pattinson told The Daily Telegraph."There are all these screaming fans around but if you talk to one for five minutes, the illusion would be gone. Often it is an imaginary thing that they want, not the reality," he said.
